From ken.vance-borland at oregonstate.edu Mon Oct 6 17:04:12 2008 From: ken.vance-borland at oregonstate.edu (Vance-Borland, Ken) Date: Mon, 6 Oct 2008 17:04:12 -0700 Subject: [Europe] Call for Nominations Freshwater Working Group Message-ID: <451453C181B199458A55B2B1723FAC00014CB6BF@SAGE.forestry.oregonstate.edu> Dear SCB European Section members, We invite you to submit nominations for the next Board of Directors (BOD) elections of the Society for Conservation Biology - Freshwater Working Group. There are currently no FWWG Board Members or Officers representing the European Section, a gap we would very much like to close. We have five open seats: **President-Elect** **Four Board Members** Successful candidates will serve two year terms. The President-Elect will then serve two years as President. If you know of someone who would be a good candidate for one of these positions (including yourself; self-nominations are welcome) please reply to this e-mail and fill out the form below or send the form by e-mail to: Ken Vance-Borland (ken.vance-borland at oregonstate.edu), Nominations Officer, before 30 October 2008. In the subject line please indicate 'SCB FWWG elections' to facilitate my work. In your message please be sure to indicate if the nomination is for President-Elect or Board Member. When I suggest we need "good" candidates, I mean someone who will bring wisdom and a willingness to work. It is desired that BOD members will be able to travel to at least one BOD meeting per year. IF YOU NOMINATE SOMEONE OTHER THAN YOURSELF DO IT WITH ENOUGH TIME THAT I CAN ASK FOR HIS OR HER ACCEPTANCE BEFORE THE DEADLINE. ___________________________________________________________ **Nomination Form -- Board of Directors, Society for Conservation Biology - FWWG** Nominations are sought for President-Elect and four members on the Board of Directors. DEADLINE: 30 October 2008 ELECTIONS: 5 November to 1 December 2008 TERM: 1 January 2009 to 31 December 2010; the President-Elect will then serve a term as President from 1 January 2011 to 31 December 2012. Nominees must be members in good standing of the Society for Conservation Biology and members of the FWWG and have to accept running for election before the deadline. By agreeing to stand for election, nominees indicate their willingness to serve the SCB- FWWG by attending (in person or by telephone) all Board of Directors meetings during their term of office (two years for Board Members; two years for the President-Elect followed by two years as President). Board meetings occur once a year. In addition, Board members are expected to be actively engaged in directing the SCB- FWWG through committee work. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nominee's Information: Name of Nominee: Board Position: Organization: Address: City: State, Province or Region: Postal Code: Country: Phone: Email: If you can provide a short (100-200 words) biographical sketch of the Nominee, please do it: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Your Information (if different): Your Name: Your Email Address: ___________________________________________________________ Thank you for your attention to this request. -ken ---- Ken Vance-Borland President, Society for Conservation Biology Freshwater Working Group Senior Faculty Research Assistant Department of Forest Ecosystems and Society, Oregon State University and USFS Aquatic and Land Interactions Program Corvallis, Oregon 97331? The system is designed to understand the interactions among pandas, people and policies. This system simulates the dynamics of human population, household fuelwood consumption, fuelwood production of thinning forest plantations, and the impact of fuelwood collection on panda habitat in Wolong Nature Reserve, China. You can change model parameters used in the simulations mentioned above. All the parameters together are treated as a scenario, which can be interpreted as a set of policy interventions. I predefined four scenarios A, B, C, and D. Please evaluate them by clicking the tab Evaluate Scenarios at the lower left corner! Wow provides a decision support tool for you to evaluate those scenarios based on your perception of the ecological, economic, and social impacts of those scenarios. With the evaluations from decision makers / stakeholders like you, we can rank the scenarios and find the best preferred. Please visit the system at http://panda.csis.msu.edu/wow/ for details on the system. Particularly, ? For how to use the system, please click the menu Help-> User Manual at the upper-left corner; ? For evaluating the four scenarios, please click the menu Help -> Scenario Evaluation ? To run the system, please click the menu WOW -> Run it Please email me at heguangm at msu.edu if you have any questions and comments. Appreciate your time and efforts of using the system and evaluating the four scenarios. Please also feel free to forward this link to whoever or any email lists you think appropriate.
