and managemen=
Message-ID: <1c14a1b80804140959s614d0526q91fb3100cbcdd26c@mail.gmail.com>
Dear Sir/Madam,
On 8 and 9 May 2008, the Zoological Society of London are holding the
symposium "*Avian Reintroduction Biology: current issues for science and
management*" which will bring together wildlife ecologists, population
modellers, geneticists, animal husbandry professionals, and veterinarians to
contribute their expertise and discuss the issues surrounding all aspects of
bird conservation translocations.
We thought you and/or some of your colleagues might be interested in
receiving details about this event and we would be grateful if you could
forward this information on to others.
We have attached a flier for this meeting as a PDF file but you can also
find full details including the programme for this two-day symposium, along
with registration and poster submission forms at
www.zsl.org/zsl-london-zoo/whats-on/avian-reintroduction-biology-symposium,215,EV.html
.
The deadline for registrations is 25 April 2008 and all poster abstracts
should be submitted to me by 18 April 2008 (deadline extended) for
consideration.
This symposium has been organised by Doug Armstrong (Massey University, New
Zealand), John Ewen (Institute of Zoology, ZSL, UK), Kevin Parker (Massey
University, NZ) & Philip Seddon (University of Otago, NZ).
We have some very good speakers presenting their views in this important
field for conservation biology and hope that we will stimulate discussion
about how to better our management of endangered species utilising these
techniques.
If this meeting is of interest and you are able we look forward to seeing
you in London in May.
With kind regards
John Ewen

Subject: [Europe] POSITION AS POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOW
Message-ID: <1c14a1b80804202040t55a23f20vba6482796ce3ebb8@mail.gmail.com>
POSITION AS POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOW
for 2 YEARS in DISPERSAL ECOLOGY
available at the Experimental Ecology Station of the CNRS in Moulis(Station
d?Ecologie Exp?rimentale du CNRS ? Moulis, France)
The position starts at the 1st of November 2008.
The highly motivated candidate will study the role of
condition-dependent dispersal
in meta-population dynamics and evolution. He/She will conduct experiments in a
vast system of semi-natural interconnected enclosures. The extent of
the system and
the equipment of each enclosure to record movements and environmental conditions
are unique in Europe and offer excellent possibilities for dispersal
research. As a
model organism the Common Lizard is foreseen. Depending on the
candidate?s skills
and interests, the research could also incorporate a theoretical part
about the role of
information in dispersal evolution, metapopulation dynamics and invasion. This
theoretical work can be developed in the context of species responses to climate
change.
The Station d?Ecologie Experimentale in Moulis (SEEM) is a recentlyfounded
research and service unit of the Centre Nationale de la Recherche Scientifique
(CNRS). SEEM, where the candidate will be working, is an
interdisciplinary research
group that combines the skills of population ecologists, behavioural ecologists,
evolutionary biologists, and geneticists to study animal dispersal and
any aspect of it.
SEEM has a strong international flavour due its international staff
and cooperation
with institutes in the US and several European countries. SEEM is located in the
foothills of the Pyrenean region Ariege (France). The station is
currently undergoing
extensive renovation and will soon host well equipped laboratories, comprising
physiologic, genetic, and ecologic lab facilities as well as experimental sites
(Aviaries, a green house, metapopulation cage among others).
The successful candidate is required to hold a PhD or equivalent experience in a
relevant area.
Applicants should submit a letter of application describing their
scientific experience
and interests with emphasis on how they expect to contribute to theproject,
curriculum vitae including a list of published work, copies of
certificates, and copies
of at most five publications. When evaluating the application,
emphasis will be given
to the applicant?s academic and personal prerequisites to carry out the project.
Applicants may be called for an interview.
Interested candidates should either contact Jean Clobert (tel: +33 5
61 04 03 69; e-
mail jean.clobert at ecoex-moulis.cnrs.fr) or Dirk S. Schmeller (tel: +33
5 61 04 03
73; e-mail dirk.schmeller at ecoex-moulis.cnrs.fr) for more detailedinformation
concerning the position and the station. Applications should be sent to:
Station d?Ecologie Experimentale du CNRS ? Moulis, 09200 Saint Girons,France.

Greetings everyone ~
The following is an update from the Executive Office of the Society for Conservation Biology. You are receiving this email because you are on one or more of our listservs. For those of you who are on more than one listserv, you will receive this message more than once.
MOVING!
After several years of relying on the kindness of The Nature Conservancy to provide us with a home, we finally just outgrew our space and purchased our own office! Our new office will be in the heart of the United States' capital, Washington, DC. We will soon bid a fond farewell to TNC with many, many thanks for their support hospitality over the years.
On Thursday, April 24th, we will close our office in Arlington, Virginia and move to our new office space in Washington, DC. We will open our doors again on Tuesday, April 29th. The new address and phone number are listed in the signature below. For those of you who track these things, please update your records accordingly.
We are extremely excited about the change - and for those of you who have seen our current office space, we're even more excited about the prospect of having windows! We look forward to showing off our new space to any or all of you whenever you may be in town.
ANNUAL MEETING
In other news, I'd like to take the opportunity to remind everyone of our upcoming annual meeting. This year, we will be hosted by the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Chattanooga is nestled in a beautiful valley between the Appalachian and Cumberland mountain chains. A host of field trip opportunities await you along with our usual outstanding array of symposia and other programs.
To register and/or to volunteer at the conference, visit www.conbio.org and click on the image of the Tennessee Valley. Be sure to stop by the SCB booth to learn about Sections, Chapters, Working Groups, and the Smith Fellows Program.
OTHER UPDATES
In June, the Smith Fellows program will announce the request for proposals for the Class of 2009 Smith Fellows with a deadline for receipt of application materials in September 2008. For more information on the Smith Fellows program and our current fellows, please visit http://www.conbio.org/SmithFellows/.
Last, but not least, I'd also like to take this opportunity to let you know that we are making changes in our membership system as well. By the end of this year, we will have transitioned to a brand new membership system. The new system will give us many tools through which to serve you better in the future. Keep your eyes open for an updated look and feel come November 2008.
That's all for now. Thank you so much for your continued support of the Society.
Best wishes for a wonderful year,
Laura
