From paemelaereevi at gmail.com Thu Sep 2 21:38:07 2010 From: paemelaereevi at gmail.com (Evi Paemelaere) Date: Thu, 2 Sep 2010 23:38:07 -0500 Subject: [SCB Chapters] Chapters on the front page - Send us YOUR stories before October 10 Message-ID: Hi Chapter Officers! You may have already heard, but the *chapters committee* has grown quite a bit. As one of many new additions to the committee, I will be serving as the *secretary*, and *newsletter editor*. You should be *receiving regular emails from me with meeting minutes, and requests* for the newsletter like this one. *Just to give you an idea of who is sending you all these emails: I was born and raised in **Belgium**, but moved to the **U.S.** for graduate school. That?s where the SCB virus caught me. We started a chapter here a few years ago and after graduation, I wanted to continue being involved in SCB, so here we are! * *What newsletter are we talking about?* Lots of exciting changes are happening for chapters in SCB. One of the new ?gadgets? for chapters is the *newsletter*; its *interactive format* will allow you to ask questions and post comments. The newsletter is just one of many ways the chapters committee hopes to bring chapters closer together and provide a strong network of support to help you succeed in your conservation efforts. With *three newsletters per year*, we also hope to keep you up to date on the latest SCB news. To make the newsletter a succes, *we need your help!* *What you can do?* Send us *stories and/or pictures* *from activities your chapter is involved in*. Tell us about your* successes, *your* struggles, new projects* that are coming up, etc. Let us know what is happening in your area with* education, policy, restoration* and more. Not too keen on writing stories? No worries, you can keep it short (or make it long), send some pictures and *we?ll take care of editing*. If we have more questions, we?ll let you know! Any *suggestions* for content are always welcome. This is newsletter is *for you, about you and all the other chapters worldwide*. So start sending stories and pictures now! *THE DEADLINE TO SEND MATERIALS FOR THE FIRST NEWSLETTER IS OCTOBER 10TH. *The sooner you send them, the sooner we can get our very first addition rolling of the digital press, and the sooner the world will know how great SCB chapters are! Where to send everything? All materials can be send to me at * paemelaereevi at gmail.com*. Please arrange to have at least 1 officer or member of your Chapter on the call -- this should be a person(s) who can talk about your Chapter with other call participants and also report minutes back to your other officers and/or members. Call-in details are below for Chapters in and outside NA. The agenda is also below. The main focus will be on Chapters Committee Updates, SCB's new strategic plan, and your chapter projects. In preparation for the call, please take a short moment to do 3 things: 1) Check the draft 2011-2015 Strategic Plan at http://www.conbio.org/ Draft2010StrategicPlan.cfm. It is quite different from the current plan, found at http://www.conbio.org/AboutUs/StrategicPlan/2006/. I've been heavily involved with creating this new plan and am happy to answer any questions and take comments. The official comment period ends on September 19. 2) Read the list of SCB member benefits (attached) that can be offered by Chapters to current and potential SCB members. Many of these are only able to be offered by Chapters and are already being done by some of you. In order to help you and SCB attract and retain members, these and other benefits need more strategic development and marketing. I'll be asking for more of your input as I develop and begin to implement benefits as part of the Strategic Plan. 3) Think about the activities and projects your group is undertaking or would like to pursue for the Fall and Winter. Be prepared to share them with other Chapters on the call. Many of you have very cool activities, and we can all benefit from hearing about them! Plus it's a great time to get feedback from fellow Chapter leaders if you have questions about leading your Chapter. Call-in details and the agenda are below, member benefits is attached.
