We welcome candidates who are SCB members, or members' recommendations. The job of the Senior Editor is evaluate submissions for review, assign a handling Editor to the review cycle, and assess the Editor's publication decision to ensure that all such decisions are consistent, fair, and in keeping with editorial policy. The Senior Editor interfaces frequently with an offsite Managing Editor and our four Editors-in-Chief: Richard Cowling, Michael B. Mascia, Hugh Possingham, and William J. Sutherland. Conservation Letters is an online only, rapid publication journal publishing empirical and theoretical research with significant implications for the conservation of biological diversity. Fast, global and policy-relevant, the journal draws on knowledge, tools and interactions from many disciplines. The Senior Editor therefore will be someone who is committed to the mission, used to interdisciplinary thinking, and willing to work in expedited fashion to achieve fast turnarounds. He or she should also be comfortable with online peer review systems and have some familiarity with journal workflows. Now publishing its third volume, Conservation Letters was accepted for ranking by Web of Science in 2010 and will receive its first Impact Factor in 2011. Like most editorial service, this position is largely volunteer, but a small stipend will be provided the Senior Editor. Please note that all responses must be received no later than November 5, 2010. Part of this approach is to better coordinate Chapter efforts among each other and with the Sections, provide education on how to do policy, and better shepherd Chapters through SCB's policy statement approvals process. The new Chapters Policy Coordinator, Cameron Kovach, has been working hard to bring these ideas to fruition the last few months, as many of you know. A critical first step is now in your hands and requires your participation/contribution: a policy survey that should take about 20 minutes to complete online. Please answer this survey, even if your Chapter does *not* currently do policy work. The text of the survey is attached. We strongly encourage you to discuss the questions with your board or members before completing the survey. Your thoughtful responses will greatly set the policy direction and activities we pursue in the foreseeable future. The survey is at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/JP5CV7X Please contact Cameron directly if you have questions. Responses are due BY WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 24. Only 1 response per Chapter, please! Many thanks to the Chapters who provided input and encouragement during the September All-Chapters Quarterly Business Call. Your feedback and requests were invaluable in creating this survey.
