The attached form contains information required to apply for a travel reimbursement. In exchange for the funds, we require the recipient to attend the Friday July 2nd Chapters Workshop as well as other Chapter events during the annual meeting (workshop info below). These activities provide important opportunities to build capacity for your Chapter and to network with leaders of other Chapters. Attendance is recorded for reimbursements. Since funds are limited, the goal is to have as many Chapters represented as possible at the workshop; therefore, we will most likely be able to fund only one person from any given Chapter. Reimbursements will be made at the annual meeting. Recipients must bring a photo ID and receipts for airfare, lodging, and/or conference registration to the meeting. These items are required in order to make funds available to you. If you are interested in receiving funds, please complete the attached and email it to me by May 31st. Selections and notifications will be made by June 7th. If you have any questions, please send me a note. There has been a little confusion as to who is eligible: the applicant must be a Chapter officer or officially designated representative of your Chapter for the meeting. This does *not* mean you can only apply if no one else from your Chapter is attending Edmonton. It only means that the person receiving funds is the official designated spokesperson and rep for your Chapter. The attached form has been tweaked slightly to clarify this point. In exchange for the funds, we require the recipient to attend the Friday July 2nd Chapters Workshop as well as other Chapter events during the annual meeting (workshop info below). This workshop is critical for your Chapter! In the past, our workshops have featured presentations by individual Chapters and have been extremely beneficial to all attendees to learn from each other. This year we are taking this capacity-building to the next level: not only will you be hearing from each other about successes and challenges in your Chapter, but we will feature fundraising and leadership professionals who will guide you through some exercises and offer advice on improving your Chapter capacity. The focus will be on increasing your revenue for projects and on strengthening your boards in order to increase leadership and membership (don't you all worry about who will be the next officers and how you can better engage your members?). Every Chapter will benefit from this workshop, and I hope all of you will have at least 1 representative there. The workshop will be followed by a social networking event just for active Chapters so that you can talk more about your groups and get to know your fellow leaders. This is an important day for you and your Chapters -- please put July 2nd into your travel plans. Please add the workshop to your registration if you have not yet done so (ignore the "full/waitlist" message on the reg form, go ahead and click the box). Regular registration ends May 30. The attached travel funds form must be returned to me by May 31. If you have any questions, please send me a note. The focus of these quarterly calls is on bringing Chapters up to date on SCB and Chapter Committee business. It also allows Chapters a forum for input and dialogue on Chapter business. Please arrange to have at least 1 officer or member of your Chapter on the call -- this should be a person(s) who can talk about your Chapter with other call participants and also report minutes back to your other officers and/ or members. Call-in information for Chapters outside NA is below. ** For this call, I would like your help and input on something: I am writing the Member Benefits portion of SCB's new strategic plan, and would like to hear from you what you perceive to be the top 3 most important benefits the parent Society offers its members. Please give it some thought and we'll talk about it on the call. The importance of your Chapter's participation on these calls cannot be over-emphasized! This is the main way you can connect with each other, keep up-to-date on SCB happenings that affect your Chapter, and have regular input on SCB business. In recognition of the importance of your participation, priority for Chapter project and travel grants is given to those Chapters that join the quarterly calls. June 8 details are below. If you'd like to add something to the agenda, please email me by FRIDAY JUNE 4. I look forward to speaking with you! Please take a few minutes to answer 6 questions that will help with our decision. The survey should take less than 5 minutes and all responses must be recorded by June 12th so that we may present results in Edmonton. To take the survey please click here: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/SCB_Global_Meeting_Location Background: SCB has a new policy by which global meetings will be held once every two years, with regional section meetings (e.g. Africa, Europe, North America) encouraged in the years in between. Before this policy was instituted, in 2004-2009, the Board of Governors had decided that global meetings would be held in North America at least every other year, given that the majority of the membership was from North America. With the change to biannual global meetings, we would like to assess the current thinking of the global membership with regard to global meeting location. Results of this survey will be presented to the SCB Board of Governors in Edmonton in July 2010, and will be made available to the SCB membership during the meeting. For your reference, a list of past, present and proposed future meeting locations is appended to the end of this survey. Thank you for your input, all responses are extremely valuable! -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:
