Please make sure to have at least one person from your board or leadership on the call. There are now 34 active Chapters (hooray!), so I expect there to be at least 34 of you on the call ;). Three very important topics are on the agenda: --The new Chapters Committee has been expanded to a dozen members, all eager to help you strengthen your activities, networking, and membership! --Edmonton is right around the corner, and do we have some exciting events and activities planned! This may well be the best conference ever for Chapters. --"Member benefits" are all about what you want and need from SCB. I'm writing the members section of SCB's next strategic plan and need your input on what you perceive to be the top 3 most important benefits the parent Society offers its members. Here's a chance to make a serious contribution to the future of SCB! Also, please join me in extending a warm virtual welcome to our 3 newest official Chapters! Central Mexico, Cuba, and Victoria University at Wellington (New Zealand) have now joined the SCB family and are very excited about engaging with you and even meeting some of you in Edmonton. Call-in details are below and I'm looking forward to speaking with you. Specifically, we are assessing policy priorities within various regions of North America with the goal of developing a conservation policy blueprint for the continent. The 1st session was held October 2009 in Flagstaff, Arizona, and addressed climate change and energy development impacts in the American Southwest as well as potential adaptation and mitigation strategies. The 2nd session will be in Edmonton, Alberta, and will address issues of energy and wildlife conflicts, water and wildlife, and adaptation/mitigation. One result of the planning sessions will be a policy white paper used by the Section, Chapters, and Executive Office to scale up regional issues to address national policies. NA Chapters/Section Joint Roundtable Wednesday July 7, 10:30am-12:30pm, Shaw Salon 15/16 This is the continuation of the roundtable begun in October 2009 (Flagstaff, AZ) to improve communication and coordination among NA Chapters and with the NA Section. This 2nd meeting will focus on Chapter needs and how the Section can help as well as discuss operationalizing some of the policy issues addressed in the Conservation Blueprint Session preceding this meeting. Discussion will also build on topics discussed at other events throughout the conference, including the Chapters workshop (Friday), retreat/social (Friday), and business meeting (Monday). ************************************** -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... I serve on the program committee and chair the local arrangements committee. The theme of the conference this year is sustainability. The ASEH program committee welcomes any proposals that address the relationship between people and nature. I hope you are willing to participate and that you will encourage your members to do so. It will help, of course, if one or more people on a panel talk about the lessons of history or change over time since we are mostly an association of historians.
