Interest in the topic was extremely high, showing that such a conversation is well worth pursuing. Logistical challenges were such that it made more sense to postpone the retreat (hopefully to Edmonton) BUT to begin the conversation during the Flagstaff conference itself. This Monday, October 5, 12p-1:30p, I am hosting a roundtable discussion to start the dialogue about improving the communication and coordination among the NA Chapters and with the NA Section. This dialogue will be carried forward in other forums as well; Monday is to begin an assessment and set the stage. If you will be in Flagstaff on Monday, I do hope you will join us! I am attaching a very short (2 pages) document to begin the thinking process for Monday. We won't have a lot of time (90 minutes goes really fast!), so please do take a moment to read the attached and start thinking about the focus questions. If you will *not* be in Flagstaff on Monday, I encourage you to look at the attached anyway. I welcome your thoughts and comments as we begin to move forward. We will also be discussing this on the monthly chapters call, Tuesday Oct 13, 5p-6p PDT (watch for the announcement). Best, Fiona PS This is a catered lunch, so please RSVP if possible so I can plan food. > Dr. Fiona Nagle Conservation Biology/Conflict Management Board of Governors, Society for Conservation Biology (Chapters Representative) ? ? ? ? ? -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Yesterday we had an amazing conversation with reps from 9 Chapters, the NA Section, the SCB Board, the EO, and the Smith Fellows -- 30 people in all. Our topic was "A Conversation about Improving Communication and Coordination among North American Chapters and with the North America Section." The conversation was lively and thoughtful, leading to eye-opening input and creative potential outcomes. Many thanks to all of you who were able to attend! I now invite all of you to join us in a continuation of this conversation next Tuesday on the monthly All-Chapters call. We've heard from 9 Chapters; I want to hear from more of you with your 2 cents and wisdom. This is the beginning of a much-needed 'bridging a gap' within SCB that will continue until at least Edmonton, if not longer. The agenda is below, a discussion guide is attached, and Flagstaff minutes will be sent later. You should plan and arrange to have at least one representative from your Chapter on this call. This is an extremely important one for the future of your Chapter; you should plan and arrange to have at least one representative from your Chapter on this call. This week we'll be following up on last week's Flagstaff conversation about improving communication and coordination with the NA Section. Last week we had an amazing discussion that focused a lot on the Section and how Chapters can plug in. This week I'd like to focus more on what are the goals, needs, resources, etc for the Chapters, collectively, and how the Section might help. We heard from 9 Chapters last week; I want to hear from more of you with your 2 cents and wisdom. This is the beginning of a much-needed 'bridging a gap' within SCB that will continue until at least Edmonton, if not longer. The Flagstaff minutes and discussion guide are attached. Again, please be sure to have at least one person from your Chapter on this call. An RSVP will be much appreciated, instructions at bottom of this email.
