The annual SCB meeting is just around the corner, and I hope you're all excited about it! For those of you attending, please note the Chapter events below. Also, **please forward this email to your members ASAP.** 1) Chapters/BOG Mixer, Sat July 11, 6p-7p, Room TBA The annual BOG Mixer is Sat July 11, 6p-7p local time. This event is open to ALL Chapter Leaders & Members. It's a great opportunity to meet-n-greet, schmooze-n-booze with the Board & powers-that-be! Come on out & show your support for Chapters. Get to know the Board &, more importantly, let them get to know you. :) Chapter Leaders, past & present, will receive a special ribbon for their name tags. All Chapter Members & Leaders: We need a count of how many of you will be there. Please fill out the doodle survey at http:// www.doodle.com/3cqku73uggy5frp2. PLEASE ADD YOUR NAME & CHAPTER & POSITION HELD (OR WRITE "MEMBER") IF ATTENDING. Deadline to add your name to the doodle is MONDAY JULY 6. 2) Chapters Booth Day, Wed July 15, all day Once again, SCB will be highlighting all its local Chapters at the SCB Booth! Hopefully you all sent materials for display (an email was sent last month, deadline was mid-June). Now we need a few folks who would like to help staff the booth on that day, especially during breaks. You're basically there to answer questions and schmooze with potential chapter members. Also, if you have some time in the early morn or late day, they may need some help setting up/tearing down. PLEASE SEND A NOTE TO ALETRIS NEILS IF YOU'D LIKE TO HELP (aletris_neils at yahoo.com). 3) Chapters Business Roundtable, Wed July 15, 12:30p-2p (lunchtime), Room TBA It's our annual Chapters business meeting, where we can chat about news from the BOG and EO, chapter concerns and activities, and hot topics. THIS IS A CRITICAL MEETING FOR LEADERS TO ATTEND, SO IF YOU'RE IN BEIJING PLEASE PUT IT ON YOUR SCHEDULE. See you all at the Great Wall, and don't forget to forward this email to your members ASAP :) Fiona > Dr. Fiona Nagle Conservation Biology/Conflict Management Board of Governors, Society for Conservation Biology (Chapters Representative) -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: <620BA2A7-AEE9-4248-8B23-4E2B78D0AAAF@umn.edu> Dear Chapter leaders, I've had good responses from several of you regarding the announcement on new leadership positions in SCB. Thank you!!!! It's wonderful to see how being a Chapter leader has whetted your appetites and trained you to become leaders at higher and different capacities :). We're still taking names, so keep spreading the word. The Student Affairs and Education Committees are popular. However, the Resource Coordinating Committee is less so. I know it may seem daunting or dry to some people, but this is actually a very cool and important position for someone with some experience in fundraising and/or funds management. And it's *critical* (in addition to required) that we have a Chapter representative on this committee. SO. Could you please think about your members' skills and experience and suggest possible nominees for this Committee? It's ok if you're not sure if they're willing and able to serve -- I'll contact those people directly and see if they're interested. I need to have a few names in hand by WEDNESDAY JULY 8 so I can let the Board know we're actively working on this at the BOG meeting next Saturday. Just a reminder that we're on summer hiatus for the monthly all- chapters conference calls. So there will be no calls in July and August, and we'll resume in September. Due to holidays etc, the call will be on the SECOND TUESDAY, 5pm-6pm Pacific time, from September- December. Starting in January 2010, we'll be moving to 1 call per quarter. The schedule of guest speakers for fall is as follows. These are incredibly knowledgeable folks who can really help your chapter and who would love your input on SCB matters. Most of them are on SCB's Board of Governors or other leadership positions. So please put these calls on your Chapter's calendar and make sure you designate someone from your chapter to join the call. You don't want to miss the chance to interact with these folks!
